Cleansed
I
John 1:9
"How can we be cleansed from
all unrighteousness?"
If we confess
our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse
us from all unrighteousness.
We spend a lot of time each
day cleaning ourselves and dressing ourselves with clean clothes. We want
to ensure that the odour of our bodies is not offensive to those around
us and we want to keep harmful organisms from affecting us. We also want
to look presentable to others.
We now have a bunch of nice
smelling people who look nice. Looks and smell are deceiving, since below
the surface of people's thin layer of skin lies a heart, soul and mind.
Within the heart of man lies
a whole other world invisible to the outside. The cleanliness and presentability
of the outside of people masks what resides within the heart soul and mind.
Within that heart soul and mind lies a mystery of emotions, struggles,
feelings and fears. Our actions and our speech display what's inside but
only some of it and then not always truthfully.
There is someone who knows
what lies within our hearts souls and mind and His name is Jesus. He looks
past the outward appearances and looks directly at our hearts. When He
sees us He doesn't see our outward appearances, He sees only our hearts
and everything in it, from the day we were born. Every secret sin, desire,
joy, sadness and thought is known to Jesus. He wants to change our sin
stained hearts to a heart set free. This heart set free would now turn
from the world of self service and sin to serve only Jesus.
When Jesus came down to earth
He chastised the pharisees for looking good on the outside but on the inside
they were full of greed and self indulgence. Matthew
23:25 Jesus told the Pharisees they were blind and to clean up what
was inside of them first and then the outside would be clean also. Matthew
23:26 Jesus called the teachers of the law, white washed tombs which
look beautiful and clean on the outside but on the inside were full of
dead men's bones Matthew
23:27
Our sin stained hearts could
only be cleaned by Jesus coming down to earth to die and pay for those
sins. Yes, our sins have been paid for by Jesus, the one and only Son of
God. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us
our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1
John 1:9
When we spend time cleaning
ourselves and dressing ourselves in clean clothes we want to be presentable
to those around us, which is great but we also need to clean up our heart
so we may be just as presentable to Jesus.
To clean up your heart, come
to Jesus and say "Jesus I am here, I want to put my sins far behind me
I and want you to clean every dirty sin out of every part of my heart."
Come to Jesus and He will continue to come to you each day and build a
relationship. Within that one to one relationship Jesus will clean your
heart and transform you into a new creation that one day will be presented
spotless and pure before our Father in Heaven.
