The Lord Reigns

" This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it."

Cursing
I Corinthians 12:3
"Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says Jesus be cursed and no one can say, Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit."

Just as salt water does not come from a fresh water spring so too cursing Jesus or God cannot come from the mouth of a person who has been reconciled to God and is speaking by the Spirit of God.

Taking God's name or the name of Jesus in vain is meant to mean cursing God or Jesus.

The following are comments given by people who curse the the name of God or Jesus:

  • I don't really mean it that way.
  • I don't have much education and this helps me to express myself.
  • It's just an expression.
  • I need to add emphasis to my speech.
  • My parents always did it.
  • I am not harming anyone.
  • It's a free country.
  • You are so perfect.
  • It's none of your business.

In a democratic country with a freedom of rights charter that gives us all kinds of freedoms all these reasons would seem to have some creditability. That is if you look at this issue only in a one dimensional way as a citizen of this country. When we look at this issue from a heavenly dimension as citizens not of this country but as citizens of Heaven then our eyes are opened to a startling conclusion with this issue.
How could a person curse God who is love, a love that is perfect, changeless and fills the very definition of love like nothing else on this earth can do. Job in chapter's 38 and 39 was asked a number of questions by God such as "Can you bind the beautiful Pleides? Can you loose the cords of Orion? Can you bring forth the constellations in their season or lead out the Bear with its cubs? Do you know the laws of the Heavens? Can you set up God's dominion over the earth? Can you raise your voice to the clouds and cover yourself with a flood of water? Do you send the lightning bolts on their way.
Psalms 109:17-19 talks about cursing as coming back on the person as a garment wrapped about him and entering into his body like water and into his bones like oil.
Cursing is a one way street away from God.
God is holy, almighty, omnipotent, and in control of the earth and the heavens. To curse such a person would be to alienate oneself from the source of power that can sustain us forever.
Just as a person on this side of heaven who curses another persons mother, wife, children or father would have to to suffer the backlash from the persons the cursing was directed at so too would a person suffer even more wrath when God or Jesus is cursed.
Even then, because of Gods all encompassing love, their is available forgiveness through Jesus Christ the only son of God. Through Jesus Christ and His death on the cross the wrath of God from the time of the fall of man in the garden of Eden has been satisfied.
Seek Him while He may be found and remove cursing and the curse from your life. Submit in repentance to His unfailing love and become a new creation in Him to live forever in a place He will prepare for you.
